Made from nylon rods these oil-filled candles are precision-made to exacting standards. There is no need for expensive oil canisters - simply refill the reservoir by unscrewing the top and pouring in the oil. To allow proper functioning of the candle the reservoir needs to be filled no more than 3/4 full.

The base of the candle can be precision machined or 'shouldered' to fit different sized  candle sockets. Simply provide the diameter and depth of the socket that the candle needs to fit into. It is always best to go slightly under on these measurements as it is easier to finely adjust the thickness of the machined base using tape. Enter the diameter and depth in the 'Notes' section when you reach checkout.

NYLON BURNING TIMES - Oil consumption is increased or decreased with the height of the flame. 30mm,35mm & 40mm Burn for 6-8 hours per fill. 50mm will burn for 13-15 hours. 75mm will burn for 18-20 hours. 90mm will burn for 24-40 hours.

Shipping typically factors in other costs related to fulfilling orders, such as the labour (minimum wage currently £10.42 per hour) required to process an order, to pick and pack it and to process the payment. The lifecycle of an average order takes about 25-30 minutes labour so roughly speaking a £4-£5 cost. Packaging materials generally come in at around 80p-£1.50 per order and there are merchant and bank payment processing fees to pay as well. Finally, there is the actual shipping fee which typically starts at £5 for a next day tracking service. Therefore, this means smaller orders are much more expensive to process relative to larger orders and this is why we'd encourage bulk buying wherever possible:

Fragile Goods

Goods considered fragile such as wine, candle oil, glass, etc will be sent via a Premium Fragile courier service. These fragile goods are dealt primarily by hand to ensure they are delivered safely and as a result incur higher charges. These charges are calculated by weight and will be displayed at checkout.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Orders are typically dispatched within 1-3 working days of receipt unless the item or order contains made-to-order products or is out of stock. If an item is out of stock we will provide an alternative product or advise when the item will be in stock.

Unless notified in advance and to avoid extended transit times couriers will be instructed to leave goods in a safe place near the main door (a porch, covered area, behind bins, etc) if no-one is available to receive them on the scheduled delivery day. If you wish to receive the goods in person please specify this at the time of ordering. For this service option the couriers will attempt to deliver the goods twice after which they are returned to our warehouse.

Please use the 'Notes' field in the shopping cart to provide delivery preferences such as office opening hours, preferred delivery days, safe places to leave goods, etc

Extra shipping charges

There are certain parts of the UK that fall outside the standard courier network such as islands and remote places and higher tariffs will apply. Certain heavy and/or fragile goods are also subject to higher shipping tariffs.

What is your returns policy?

We accept returns. Please examine your goods within 3 days of the scheduled delivery date. If incorrect or broken please email images to info@dmhay.co.uk so we can send the correct items or organise replacements. If you wish to return goods please ensure they are packaged appropriately for transit. Returned goods will be examined on receipt and if in a saleable condition will be returned to stock and a full refund will be provided less a restocking charge. It is not possible to provide refunds on any returned goods that are damaged.

Guidelines for burning Nylon Oil Filled Candles

Wick adjustment
A. When first installing oil filled candles, unscrew the wick assembly and adjust the wick height manually to approximately 1 /8” high, this will produce a normal flame height. Care should be taken NOT to pull the wick down below the metal tube, as retrieval can be difficult.

Filling the candle
B. While the wick assembly is removed, fill the candle with oil to the base of the internal thread - approx 3 /4 full. The oil, when warm, expands and if overfilled will leak through the air holes in the top. To judge the height, many customers have put a small piece of cork in the reservoir and are then able to assess the oil depth as the cork rises.

Oil
C. DM Hay's clean burning candle oil has been specially developed to give a safe and clean burn. Other oils, i.e. barbecue fluid will result in black deposits on the candle and may ignite at a lower temperature increasing the fire risk.

Lighting the candle
D. When the reservoir is filled and the wick assembly has been replaced, allow a few minutes for the oil to reach the wick. The wick is fibreglass and the oil is transmitted by capillary action so the oil vapour, not the wick burns. This means that once the flame height is set the wick will not need trimming. Care must be taken NOT to use wax tapers to light the candle as the wax can block the wick. Should this occur, pull up the wick cut a 1 /4” off and re-light. Tall altar candles can be lit by using a nylon lighter. At other times a lighter or match can be used. Nylon candles can be extinguished in the normal way or by using a CLEAN extinguisher.

Cleaning
E. Should the candle become dirty then the oil applied with a cloth will remove dirt and dust. Do not clean with soap and water.

These simple guidelines, if followed, should result in your nylon candles giving good service for a long time.
